Qualcomm and its Snapdragon X75 promise to leave us at the gates of 6G

The 5G Advanced (‘5G Advanced’) begins to roll. And Qualcomm is the first manufacturer to launch a modem compatible with the evolution of 5G that it intends to land next year. Everything is arranged so that the step prior to 6G arrived in Spain, but we did not have hardware capable of taking advantage of this improvement. Now yes.

Qualcomm has introduced the new modem Snapdragon X75. We are facing the most advanced 5G chip on the market, which is expected to be incorporated into the future Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that will be presented at the end of the year.

Snapdragon X75, the first modem ready for Advanced 5G

The Snapdragon X75 is the first modem ready for Advanced 5G, technically known as the standard 3GPP Release 18. Although 5G has only been with us for a few years, this 5G+ introduces a whole series of improvements that should significantly expand the experience.

The Advanced 5G promises not only a higher speed than the current standard, but also a better passage between antennas, the possibility of using free bands for communication between terminals and the reduction of battery consumption.

Among the advantages of the Snapdragon X75 is the commitment to a new architecture, which integrates in the same transceiver the mmWave millimeter band and the Sub-6 GHz bands. It is the first modem with up to 10 added operators.

While last year’s model, el Snapdragon X70was the first to add a dedicated AI processor to the modem, this new generation comes with its own chipset that has its own acceleration and promises up to 2.5 times higher performance.

Among the strengths of the Snapdragon X75 there is also the optimization of the battery with the new Qualcomm 5G PowerSave Gen 4, which promises 20% energy improvement.

It is not the only thing, since multiple components are added that improve the main aspects of the modem. The Snapdragon X75 will also improve location accuracy by 50% with AI-Enhanced GNSS Location Gen 2.

All this in a size up to 25% smaller, which in practice will mean that mobile phones can be made thinner. Or what is the same, have more space to place other components such as more battery.

The Snapdragon X75 will also offer support for WiFi 7thus being the first modem to bring together all future versions of the mobile connectivity sector, from Advanced 5G to the new version of WiFi.

Advanced 5G has a focus beyond mobile phones. We are talking regarding augmented/virtual reality glasses, but also synchronization between multiple devices or the possibility of receiving connectivity via satellite systems. For the user, the Internet connection may seem all the same since it is somewhat transparent, but connectivity is changing and modems capable of extracting all the game are needed.

it is expected to be in 2024 when you disembark the 5G Advanced. Spain has the UNICO R&D advanced 5G and 6G program, with an initial concession of €95.2 million for the deployment of these technologies until 2021 and €116 million until 2023.

By operators such as Orange The deployment of 5G in Spain has already begun+, occasionally in large cities. Components like the new Snapdragon X75 will allow these different projects to be used.
