For those who can use it, how to take emergency contraception to be safe, doctor? (Reader Phuong Linh, Hai Duong)

Specialist Doctor I Le Ngoc Trung (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Vinh Phuc General Hospital) advises:

Using emergency contraception is highly effective and fast. However, the use of this drug can occur some unwanted side effects. Therefore, women should not abuse the drug too much, should only use it in cases where it is really necessary.

The emergency contraceptive pill is not right for everyone, in other words, not everyone can use the emergency contraceptive pill. Accordingly, people who are allergic to any ingredient of the emergency contraceptive pill should not use this contraceptive.

In addition, some women are advised not to use birth control pills if they are at risk of stroke, heart attack, blood clot formation or other problems with the heart or circulation, who have diabetes. Chronic diseases such as liver, kidney, diabetes, unexplained bleeding, undergoing cancer treatment or a history of cancer….

Women who do not fall into the above categories can use emergency contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancy. However, emergency contraceptive pills will not be effective if used continuously.
