The head of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood said on Monday, during a gathering of nominees for this year’s Oscars, that the academy’s response to… Slap movie star Will Smith For Chris Rock to host the awards show last March that wasn’t enough.

The Academy was criticized for allowing Smith to remain in his seat and receive the Best Actor award following he attacked Rock on stage.

“What happened on stage is totally unacceptable,” said Academy President Janet Yang during a luncheon at the annual Oscar nominees’ party in Beverly Hills. “The response from the organization was insufficient.”

“And we learned from this that the Academy must be fully transparent and accountable for our actions, especially in times of crisis,” she added.

Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences following this incident and the Academy prevented him from attending award ceremonies for ten years, but he is still eligible to run for and win the Academy Awards awarded by the Academy.
