Attempted attack during the Miss Belgium election: the Dutch woman who accompanied the suspect released unconditionally

The Bruges investigating judge released today the person of Dutch nationality who was on Saturday in the company of Peter C., the man suspected of having wanted to commit an attack during the Miss Belgium election evening on Saturday, the federal prosecutor’s office announced on Monday. She was released unconditionally.
Peter C. will appear on Thursday 16 February before the council chamber of the Bruges court of first instance.

This 46-year-old man, from Lommel (Limburg), was arrested on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. in La Panne (West Flanders) in possession of a weapon. According to the federal prosecutor’s office, he probably intended to commit an attack during the Miss Belgium election which was taking place in the Plopsaland amusement park.

The suspect denies having wanted to commit an attack during the beauty contest, his lawyer Walter Van Steenbrugge said on Sunday. He was placed under arrest warrant Sunday for attempted terrorist assassination.
