Make a smart organization in the wardrobe is essential to ensure practicality in everyday life and, with that, even improve your consumption habits. With everything in place and visible, you can know exactly what parts you already have and avoid unnecessary purchases. But, we know that organizing the wardrobe and keeping it in order is a challenging task. That’s why we spoke to charm organizer Ana Flávia Furlan, who detailed a step by step on how to do this without drama. See right below!
1. Don’t try to organize your entire wardrobe at once
“Throwing everything on the bed will make you confused, tired and you will easily give up and throw everything back in, making even more of a mess. Instead, separate your closet by parts: underwear drawer, purse shelf… and choose one category at a time”, explains Ana Flávia.
2. Know what you have
“Gather complete family to get a real sense of what you have. When, for example, you put all your pants together, you’ll know how many copies of that item you have, what colors they are, the fabrics and models. And that will facilitate the next step.”
3. Detach!
“Choose the pieces you love, that fit you well, make good combinations and, therefore, deserve a space in the closet. The rest, decide whether they will be discarded, donated or adjusted somehow”.
4. Think outside the box
“After this sorting, it’s time to choose the best place in the closet to store that category. Think outside the box: jeans can stay in drawers and shirts look great on hangers! It all depends on the frequency of use, the configuration of your space and the number of pieces in that family”.
5. What to hang and what to fold
“As a rule, clothes that wrinkle should be hanging and those that don’t knead, can be bent. Here, two caveats: the first is that knits and heavy clothes with fabrics that stretch can deform on hangers. And the second is that pants are better accommodated on children’s hangers”.
6. Smart tricks
“On the shelves, avoid high stacks. They tend to fall apart day by day. One trick is to use boxes on the shelves to act as drawers. And, in the drawers, leave the folded pieces standing, one following the other, like folders in a filing cabinet. This makes it easy to view and access.”
7. Habit is key
“To keep your closet always in order, make a habit of get things back to the place as quickly as possible so the pieces don’t pile up and the clutter doesn’t set in once more. Retire the exercise bike or the chair next to the bed that turned into coat racks”.
8. Bet on the organizers
“Use organizers to delimit spaces. A drawer with all the underwear mixed up can quickly become a mess, but if you use organizers to separate bras from panties, for example, it will be easier to return everything to its place on a daily basis”.
9. Store with care
“Whatever is of less frequent use, put in boxes with breather or packs of TNT and store on the highest shelves or in the luggage racks. This includes souvenirs, costumes, clothes that don’t fit or those worn on a trip.”
10. Don’t hoard
“Do descartes systematically. Bought a new piece, take an older one out of the closet. And each season, review what you haven’t used in the last year and doe. If you didn’t wear it last summer, you probably won’t this one.”
