Dewayne Dedmon signs with the Sixers

The Sixers were struggling to find stability at the pivot position behind Joel Embiid? Philly may have found the solution by signing Dewayne Dedmon.

Joel Embiid sometimes needs to breathe, but the staff of Doc Rivers does not necessarily find the right recipe to replace his All-Star well. The Sixers have nevertheless perhaps found the rare pearl (gently on the terms anyway), by recovering Dewayne Dedmon until the end of the season, just cut by the Spurs. He is the fourth pivot to join the Sixers rotation, behind Jojo, Montrezl Harrell and Paul Reed. At 33, Dedmon has been around a lot in the Big League. Orlando, Golden State, Atlanta, Sacramento, Miami, the pivot had already passed through Philadelphia during the 2013-14 season.

The interior had been traded by the Heat to Spurs with a second draft pick earlier in the season, before being cut two days ago. If he was interesting last season, this year he is quite disappointing sportingly speaking. Lining for Orlando Robinson (this sentence, already…), he lost his place over the season. Less impact in the racket, too many fouls committed, a flagrant lack of energy, and Dedmon even got confused with Erik Spoelstra’s staff and was sidelined. If he apologized, he only played around thirty games this season.

Dedmon is shooting 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game this season. The pivot wants to revive in Pennsylvania and should bring experience and stability behind Joel Embiid. With Process having been injured in the past, it makes sense the Sixers want to have as much depth behind him as possible. If Philly decides to give the All-Star a few days off at the end of the season, Dedmon might thus be called upon to do the job for the MVP candidate.
