The sky lit up this morning around 4 a.m. in the north of France. A meteoroid, name given to a small asteroid, indeed entered the atmosphere where it ignited before disintegrating. This was particularly visible over Rouen, but some saw it from Paris and even London.

Several people managed to film the event and it was not a fluke. The arrival of this one meter diameter meteoroid was planned, as recalled France info. The object had been spotted a few days ago by Christian Sarnecki and named following the first letters of its name Sar2667. This is the seventh time that an asteroid has been predicted before its passage, thanks to technological advances.

A surfer responding to the name of @MegaLuigi on Twitter posted his film in particular and others replied by showing theirs, pointing out that Sar2667 had appeared at the predicted second. Numérique@France has even made a compilation of different films.

The meteoroid as expected entered Earth’s atmosphere over the English Channel at 3:59 a.m. before disintegrating. Several people say they heard a sound following filming it. Given its small diameter, it represented no danger on the ground.
