Dakhla-Oued Eddahab affected by 5 national heritage listings

The Regional Directorate of Culture of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab recently registered two historical monuments and three archaeological sites in the region on the national heritage list. This initiative is part of the Department of Culture’s efforts to ensure the legal protection of historical sites and relics in the region, said a statement from the Regional Directorate.

In this wake, the historic monuments Santa Maria Del Corni Church and the main gate of the Spanish administrative district in Dakhla were registered, in addition to the archaeological sites Lemhignat Inifaffen, Chyaf (Oued Jenna) and Aghylas in the provinces of ‘Oued Eddahab and Aousserd.

These archaeological sites and historical monuments have been registered on the list of national heritage in accordance with the two decrees of the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication 3530.22 and 3531.22, of December 20, 2022, published in Official Bulletin 7166, dated 11 Rajab 1444 (2 February 2023).

Under these two decrees, adds the press release, it is strictly forbidden to alter or make any modification to these sites, except in the case of authorization issued by the competent services of the Department of Culture, as stipulated by article 6 of law 22.80.
