Selon Variety (opens in a new tab)Amazon is developing a live-action Spider-Man Noir TV series for Prime Video.
The series, which is believed to be in early development, is Spider-Man’s second live-action project for Prime Video. The production – currently untitled – will be set in 1930s New York and follow a grizzled, older, world-weary vigilante than casual fans are used to.
Curiously, the series’ protagonist won’t be some variation of Peter Parker. In the comics, Spider-Man Noir is the alternate universe version of the Peter Parker that fans know and love. However, a source close to the project says that this Peter Parker will not be the main character of the series.
Ears Uziel (The Secret of the Lost City, 22 Jump Street) will write and executive produce Spider-Man Noir. Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal – all involved to varying degrees in Sony’s Spider-Verse project – will also executive produce the series.
It’s not yet known if Nicolas Cage, who portrayed Spider-Man Noir in the award-winning animated film Spider-Man : New Generation from 2018, will portray the character in the Amazon TV series. Another option available to Amazon might be Milo Ventimiglia, who voiced the character in the animated series. Ultimate Spider-Man. The Spider-Man Noir TV series comes three months following Amazon and Sony announced another Spider-Man spinoff series for Prime Video. baptized Silk : Spider Societythis project will feature Cindy Moon’s superpowered individual and would be an extension of Sony’s Spider-Man Cinematic Universe. Silk : Spider Society will launch on Prime Video internationally and on MGM Plus in the United States. Angela Kang is already in place as showrunner.
Analysis: A tangled web of crossovers
Amazon’s desire to create its own Spider-Verse is curious considering the amount of Spider-Man content (live-action and animation) that is in development.
Currently, Sony Pictures owns the rights to over 900 Spider-Man characters, including Spider-Man appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony has also been hard at work developing its own Spider-Man-style multiverse – commonly referred to as the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) – which is home to projects like Venom, Morbius and the upcoming animated sequel. Spider-Man : Across the Spider-Verse. Add to that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker who stars in several MCU films, and the addition of a third Spider-Verse on Prime Video will only complicate things further.
However, as the SSU is ready to build on the multiversal exploration of New Generation with his next film Madame Web, it’s possible that this Spider-Man Noir TV series is part of Sony’s overall plan for a much larger Spider-Man Multiverse. Alternatively, Sony might keep some of Amazon’s Spider-Man projects separate, particularly if it plans to use characters like Silk and Spider-Man Noir in its own multiverse.
Regardless of how the television series of Spider-Man Noir fits into the SSU, there’s a lot of content on the way. Spider-Man spin-off films, such as Kraven the Hunter et Venom 3, are also slated for theaters in the coming years. In the meantime, a fourth MCU Spider-Man movie is reportedly in the works for a June 2024 release, though it’s unclear if that potential launch date is accurate.
