Marco Odermatt secures the first World Championship medal of his career. After a complicated start to the year with a knee injury, Odermatt triumphed in the downhill in Courchevel in front of the Norwegian dominator Aleksander Kilde.
The palmarès is complete. Marco Odermatt, 25 years old, is now also world champion, in the supreme discipline downhill – of all things. The Brothers Grimm might hardly have come up with such a fairy tale better. Because before the World Championships in Courchevel, the 25-year-old from Nidwalden was missing two things: a victory in a downhill and a medal at the World Championships. Odermatt won Olympic gold and the overall World Cup last year.
