[周刊王CTWANT] A massive earthquake in Turkey has ground rescuers scrambling through the rubble to rescue those trapped, and telemetry satellites in the sky are also joining the fray. The National Space Center shared on Facebook yesterday that my country’s Forbes-5 launched an emergency schedule to capture images during the short-lived flight over the disaster area, providing disaster maps to assist rescue operations, and observed that the surface of some areas moved by more than 69 centimeters, The damage area of the building is regarding 187 hectares.
The National Space Center said that on February 9th, Forbes-5 obtained clear post-disaster images for the first time, and collected multiple foreign satellite images for disaster analysis, and provided these analysis data to the National Disaster Prevention and Rescue Technology Center, Tzu Chi Foundation and other units , and also share information with Sentinel Asia for use by disaster relief members from various countries. Fuwu’s imaging work in the disaster area will continue until February 17th to contribute to international rescue operations.
At 4:17 a.m. local time on February 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey near the Syrian border. The epicenter was located in the town of Nurday, Gaziantep Province, Turkey, with a focal depth of 17.9 kilometers. Several followingshocks followed, among which the strongest magnitude 7.5 shallow earthquake occurred nine hours later, less than 100 kilometers to the north, and the disaster expanded, causing more than 10,000 casualties.
Two hours following the earthquake in Turkey, the data processing team of the National Space Center started an emergency schedule, and at the same time received the imaging request from Watch Asia. Since then, I have been planning satellite schedules, image processing, searching for pre-disaster satellite images, collecting and analyzing domestic and foreign satellite images, marking disaster-affected areas, and providing data to disaster relief agencies.
On February 7, Fuwu happened to pass through Turkey. It was originally planned to capture the city of Gaziantep near the epicenter of the original magnitude 7.8. Unexpectedly, the weather was bad and the target area was completely covered by clouds. Fu Wu revisited the same area every two days. On February 9th, he successfully obtained a clear image at 11:33 local time; on February 11th, the location of the image was taken at the same location, and clear results were also obtained. The disaster area is vast, and on February 13th, Fuwu will change locations for filming.
The team used the image of Fuwu on February 9 and the pre-disaster image of the European Sentinel-2 satellite on January 25 this year to conduct building interpretation and analysis, and demarcate the possible areas where buildings collapsed, tents were built, ground cracks, or trees collapsed. , it is concluded that the affected area of the building is regarding 187 hectares.
In addition, the team also used two sets of radar images from the European Sentinel-1 satellite (January 28 before the disaster and February 9 following the disaster) to initially observe the amount of surface change, and observed that the surface of some areas moved by more than 69 cm.
