Michigan: a teenager kidnapped by her biological mother?

A Michigan teenager, believed to have been abducted by her birth mother more than a year ago following running away from her foster home, has been found hiding in a closet.

The 14-year-old girl was found by US Marshals on Tuesday at a home in Port Huron, a town 100 miles northeast of Detroit, Global News reported. She had been missing since September 2021.

Clues led the police to the residence in question. The owners of the premises refused to cooperate, but officers eventually obtained a search warrant. When authorities found the teenager in the wardrobe, the owners were said to be surprised. They might possibly be charged.

When child protective services brought the teenager to hospital, they discovered she was pregnant. “She cried. She didn’t know where she was going. She was quite terrified and she was afraid of losing her baby,” Deputy Chief of Police Marshal Robert Watson told AFP. Detroit Free Press.

The investigation of the authorities allowed to accuse the biological mother of the young girl of abduction in this case. Clues suggest that the mother would have found her daughter, who had run away from her foster family, before moving her regularly to different houses in the neighborhood.
