ALADDIN, from the big screen to the stage

The next March 24th arrive at Coliseum Theatre of Madrid the stage adaptation of ALADDINthe musical with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, Chad Beguelin and Tim Rice that is part of the Disney renaissance and has touched the hearts of thousands of people over the years.

It was in 1992 when the animated film hit theaters directed by Ron Clements and John Musker and with a luxury cast in which the voices of Robin Williams or Lea Salonga stand out.

The film was nominated for four Oscars and won two of the awards, for Best Original Score and Best Song for “A Whole New World.”

The film became a cultural phenomenon that gave rise to two direct-to-video sequels and a television series, but it was not until 2014 that the theatrical adaptation would premiere on Broadway, in the same wake as other great successes of the Disney factory such as BEAUTY AND THE BEAST or THE LION KING. The musical would get 5 Tony Award nominations and would get one for James Monroe Iglehart, who played the Genie.

After Broadway, there would be a London production at the Prince Edward Theater in the West End and several international productions, to which the Spanish one will be added next March.

Just five years following its theatrical adaptation, ALADDIN returned to the cinema, this time with a Live Action adaptation directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Will Smith, which achieved great public success and added to the score the song Speechless, a solo for Jasmine composed by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The film has triggered various rumors of a sequel.

It will be on March 24 when we will be able to enjoy this cultural phenomenon in Spain by Stage Entertainment, which will join its sister production EL REY LEÓN to fill Madrid’s Gran Via with Disney magic.
