The winter temperatures not only make me crave a wonderful escape to the ski slopes, but they also make me want to simply talk regarding winter coats. Not just winter coats. The label was founded 10 years ago by the Spanish Bianca and originated in Bilbao. Right from the start, she had a clear mission in mind with ifeelnut: to create clothing for positive and natural women who seek comfort and versatility in their everyday outfits. When designing the collections, a conscious balance is made on the tightrope of classic shapes and contemporary touches. And that, in combination with a touch of romance. Was it not thanks to an acquaintance at Pig Pig (fair fashion agency from Leuven), I didn’t have a copy of them hanging in my wardrobe today.
What I love regarding this fashion label is that they are a small business that cares deeply regarding all the workforce that makes their label possible. They resolutely opt for a 100% Spanish production and 100% European materials. This way they have control over the traceability of every garment and they know every person who participates in their design and production process. From manufacturer to garment and the last button. As you know, in the fast fashion world that is usually the exception to the rule. And is human exploitation or child labor still the harsh reality in many places worldwide… Precisely because many fashion brands do not have their process under control from A to Z and are dependent on dozens of parties. Not with this brand, so!

I never thought I would brush up on my Spanish during a responsible fashion research, but we’re happy to include that ;-). Super handsome winter coats, is the intertitle. The timeless examples of ifeelnut – which you can clearly spot on this web page – are all models that leave the seasons, trends and years behind the times. Both the short and long silhouettes are beautiful in their simplicity and they are also almost all made from Spanish merino wool. A fabric that is sustainable in the literal sense of the word, as it lasts up to twice as long as conventional cotton. It is a 100% biodegradable material that is also very easy to recycle. Moreover, it requires a lot less energy and water than other conventional substances. Although produced locally, merino wool is still an animal product. The determined vegans among us will succumb to another winter coat.
About the price tag
For most of us this is it biggest obstacle. I also have to swallow it. Fortunately, we don’t need a new one every winter, although many media outlets or brands would have us believe it. We can’t forget that these responsibly-crafted winter coats are of high quality, making them last for years to come. And the more you wear them, the more the cost-per-wear goes down.
