In Quang Binh, the native species of ginseng grows naturally on the coastal sandy soil of the province. This plant has high medicinal value, so it is over-exploited in nature and gradually becomes depleted.

With the desire to contribute to the restoration, conservation and development of indigenous sa ginseng varieties, the Fund to Support Women for Development in Quang Binh Province has implemented the project “Model of the Women’s Nests to preserve indigenous ginseng in the province”. sandy land in Hai Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district.”

The implementation of the project will contribute conserve indigenous plant varieties, and at the same time create opportunities for people to directly participate in biodiversity protection activities and join hands to protect the environment sustainably in the direction of a green economy, proactively adapting to climate change. climate change.

The project will be implemented from January to September 2023. The project is financially supported by the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam through the “Conservation Fund” project by the Nuoc Viet Center for Biodiversity Conservation. Green (GreenViet) and the Gustav – Stresemann Institute (GSI, Germany) jointly implemented.

The project will collect seeds locally to build a nursery with an area of ​​200m2; then provide technical guidance, pilot planting in households on 800m2 and proceed to expand the area by 2,500m2 in the next crop.

The implementation process will combine instructions on harvesting and processing techniques to create sustainability of the model.

Ms. Do Thi Bich Thuy informed that the project aims at at least 1,000 people to benefit, of which 70% are women, 30% are men. Creativity is reflected in the link between community development and biodiversity conservation; There is coordination of scientific organizations to ensure the production process can be replicated, the establishment of cooperative groups, in order to build a professional management model, promote gender equality and improve local capacity. towards the goal of conservation and sustainable development.

Ginseng is also known as sea ginseng / sand ginseng, spinach, sea chrysanthemum … and has the scientific name Launaea Sarmentosa. This plant is a precious medicinal herbs in nature, is both a clean vegetable with high nutritional value.

According to researchers, ginseng has medicinal ingredients such as saponins, polyphenols, and flavonoids that have anti-cancer abilities, help strengthen the cardiovascular system, and minimize complications from diabetes and sugar-related diseases. Respiratory.

Dr. Hoang Bich Thuy, Quang Binh College of Agriculture and Industry Technology, assessed that ginseng is considered a precious “ginseng” plant with high medicinal value because the entire root, stem, and leaf of the plant. are all usable.
