Austrian Music Export will start a pilot project in 2023 with a focus on further training and international exchange. The program is aimed at people in the music business and thus primarily at the people “behind” the artists – i.e. above all at labels, publishers, management etc.
The program is intended to broaden economic and artistic horizons and, in direct exchange with colleagues in markets of similar size and structure, to recognize potential, learn to apply it for oneself and use it.
The bridge building in the name by no means exclusively means a direct, one-dimensional export to the announced target countries, but rather learning opportunities, inspiration for new playing fields and first-hand examples for future development steps and collaborations.
The first destination of such a trip is Switzerland, which will also be the partner country of the autumn Waves Vienna will be and is therefore ideal for a particularly intensive and lasting exchange. In advance of the Swiss counterpart, the m4musican Austrian delegation will therefore travel to Zurich.
What exactly is happening on site?
Wednesday, March 22nd:
Joint arrival by train from Vienna with boarding options at Railjet stations. (09:28 Vienna Hbf – 17:20 Zurich Hbf) with networking options on the train; followed by a reception/joint dinner with colleagues from Switzerland in Zurich.
Thursday, 03/23
Workshop day in the Exil Club next to the Schiffbau, where M4Music will also take place on the following day, with selected colleagues from Switzerland (also from the environment of labels, publishers, management and agencies).
We get to know the structure, size and special features of the market first-hand and discuss the respective problems, opportunities and challenges with our Swiss colleagues – from organizations, partnerships, experiences and hurdles in export to similarities in the local environment. We question whether and which similarities can offer starting points for cooperation from the individual to the structural level. What learnings do colleagues have that can also be used individually?
The program is rounded off by a Showcase in exile with Austrian acts on the eve of the Swiss industry festival M4Music. Information on applying for the showcase below.

Individual journey home or staying at the industry conference M4Music in Zurich (ticket included) with live program (e.g My Ugly Clementine).
Who can and should ride?
The program is primarily aimed at people in the music business – these are above all the people working in the economy “behind” the artists; i.e. labels, publishers, management. The trip is considered particularly useful for entrepreneurs with at least initial experience in cross-border music marketing. In principle, there is no genre limitation, but a look at what is happening on m4music However, the environment that is offered is advisable, since our partners and guests will also come from this expanded pop/independent/alternative segment.
Due to the limited number of participants, only one person per company can be funded.
How do I apply and how is selected?
Please send us a short, maximum one-page letter of motivation. Include relevant personal information covering interest, field of work and any reference productions you have worked (or helped) on. Please send your documents to office@musicexport.at by February 17, 2023 at the latest
The number of participants is limited. The participants are selected by Austrian Music Export; Applicants will receive a formal confirmation or rejection of funding or participation by February 23, 2023.
What does this cost?
The mission is being piloted by Austrian Music Export organized and funded by LSG producers and the Austrian Chamber of Commerce co-financed. A flat-rate subsidy of EUR 350 per person is available from this. Travel, accommodation and individual meals are to be financed by yourself. (Note: The joint train journey from Vienna to Zurich on March 22 is free for the participants. The return journey must be paid for and organized by the participants themselves.)
Austrian Music Export holds contingents in a proposed, shared hotel ibis budget at the price of EUR 112 / night. 2 overnight stays are planned (22./23.03.); there is an option to extend for those wishing to add an additional day or two to the industry event m4music want to stay in Zurich.
Showcase Austrian Heartbeats im Exil
On the eve of m4music takes place in Zurich Exile a showcase with 2-3 Austrian acts as the conclusion of the “Building Bridges” mission with the participation of numerous Swiss industry guests.
Please send applications to office@musicexport.at by February 17, 2023 at the latest. The selection of the performing acts is up to them Austrian Music Export in coordination with the M4Music.
Requirements are:
Reimbursement of expenses/cost contribution: EUR 400 per act as well as train tickets for the joint arrival on March 22nd, 2023 as well as overnight stays from March 22nd to 24th, 2023 for the individual return journey on the following days.
