Johan Van Herck is no longer the captain of the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup teams

The Royal Belgian Tennis Federation announced on Friday that it is ending its collaboration with John Van Herck as captain of the Belgian Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup teams. Van Herck was to leave office at the end of the year. But following the elimination of Belgium in qualifying for the next Davis Cup, this departure will be anticipated.

Johan Van Herck became captain of the national Davis Cup team in 2011. In 2019 he also took charge of the Belgian Billie Jean King Cup team.

He professionalized these teams, created a cohesive group and, thanks to an ambitious approach, managed to bring the Davis Cup team to the final twice. We can only be proud and grateful for what Johan has accomplished with the teams, the players“, said the Federation in a press release.

Recent Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup results have been disappointing, however.“, added the Federation. Belgium will have to go to Canada in April for the qualifications for the next Billie Jean King Cup. The Belgian Federation says to itself “aware of the urgency of the situation“. “For this reason, the announcement of the name(s) of his successor(s) is the priority for the next few days.“, she indicated.
