Hanoi Iced tea shop adventurous customers sitting right on the track

The railway section in front of Bach Mai Hospital (Dong Da, Hanoi) on Giai Phong Street has become a gathering place for all kinds of sidewalk shops for many years. From the breakfast restaurant, to the tobacco shop, to the iced tea shop, they all take this as their business location, despite the North-South trains that still run through here every day.

According to the railway regulations, the minimum safety corridor of urban railway must be at least 3m wide, but here there is no more “distance” with the track. Many people also found it too crowded, so they brought chairs to the middle of the track to sit and drink water.

Many customers sit right on the rails.

When spotting the police from afar, the vendors quickly packed up their goods, umbrellas, and quickly ran out of the railway area. When the police force arrived, the vendors were no longer in the railway safety corridor area.

This is the bordering area between Phuong Mai ward (Dong Da district) and Dong Tam ward (Hai Ba Trung district). The entire area has been barricaded by functional forces, but people still violate it.

“Railway safety corridor is a unique feature of railway traffic, other people violating the corridor area are very dangerous. The roads cross the intersection, the flow of people in and out here is very high. If safety is not ensured, accidents are very likely to happen,” said Captain Nguyen Hoai Nam, Police Department Team of Phuong Mai Ward (Dong Da, Hanoi).

When the police force arrived, the vendors were no longer in the railway safety corridor area.

Captain Nam added that he will send forces to the post to avoid the phenomenon of sneaky sales: “We will continue to strengthen patrols and handling. If the subjects have been tried before, If the case is handled further, we will take stricter measures.”

Trafficking in the railway safety corridor continued following the functional forces left.

Despite the prohibition sign, both owners and customers still carefree eating and drinking on the tracks when the functional forces are absent.
