Marc Tarabella is heard this Friday morning by an investigating judge at the federal police, said the federal prosecutor’s office, confirming information from Sudinfo. The MEP, whose parliamentary immunity was lifted a few days ago, is being heard as part of the investigation into corruption within the European Parliament. According to Sudinfo, the investigators came to pick up Marc Tarabella at his home in Anthisnes on Friday morning, with a view to hearing him with the federal police in Brussels.
On 2nd February the European Parliament validated the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella. The latter is targeted in an investigation by the federal prosecutor’s office, entrusted to the examining magistrate Michel Claise, on the attempts of Qatar and Morocco to influence the economic and political decision-making of the European Parliament.
The home of the MEP – and mayor of Anthisnes – was searched last December. As regards the lifting of his parliamentary immunity, he had not opposed it. Marc Tarabella has always affirmed his innocence and has never received money or a gift, from Qatar or another country, in exchange for favorable positions in the debates within the European Parliament.
In addition, the former MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri, who was charged in the context of this investigation and obtained the status of repentant, confided that he had given a sum of between 120,000 and 140,000 euros, in cash, to Marc Tarabella, so that he supports positions in favor of Qatar.
