Mat Ishbia arrives in the NBA by recovering Kevin Durant, hello guts

New Phoenix owner Mat Ishbia sure knows how to get attention. Just hours following his franchise induction, the Suns signed Kevin Durant. As a way to land in the NBA, we still saw quieter. In any case, the gentleman is full of great ambitions for his new toy.

Nobody might miss the transfer of the year. Last night, the Nets ended their title project by sending Kevin Durant to Phoenix, in exchange for Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson and 4 unprotected first rounds of the Draft. With Chris Paul, Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton alongside the Tarantula, it’s hard to imagine this team not establishing itself as one of the new favorites for the June trophy.

A transfer that was directly directed by the newly elected new owner of the Suns. Mat Ishbia became the day before the new owner of the franchise. Born in Detroit, Ishbia touched the orange ball a lot as a youth, playing for Michigan State from 1999 to 2003 and going on to win the college championship in 2000. In 2013, he took over as United Wholesale Mortgage, a financial lending company, and makes it a real success story. At 43, he bought the Suns and the Mercury, the WNBA franchise in Phoenix. Owning 53% of the capital of the Suns, he becomes with this purchase the youngest owner of the NBA.

Be the new kid in the owners’ yard? Not even afraid. On the contrary, the latter made a point of signaling his arrival in the league by realizing from the outset the biggest transfer of the season. Calling Sean Marks and Joe Tsai, telling them “Okay guys, we look each other between six eyes, we light a cigar and we talk”… that’s class. Even more when the discussions lead to an announcement as explosive as that of this morning.

Suns fans can sleep on both ears tonight, they now have an owner who is focused on basketball and who is not afraid to break the codes to give a monumental boost to the sports project of the franchise that he now owns.
