Microsoft has confirmed bugs on Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers that have Intel hardware. The company says that updates made available with the November 2022 Patch Tuesday are causing some apps to fail to open on PCs with Intel hardware, particularly older ones released in early 2022.
After the release of recent updates such as KB5022360 for Windows 11 version 22H2, there have been reports of users saying that they are having problems with apps crashing on startup, where an error message popping up saying “apphelp.dll is missing” . However, Microsoft says that not all users are facing this bug, as this inconsistency in the operation of apps is specifically related to Intel hardware.
Microsoft confirms bug in Intel PCs with Windows 10 and Windows 11
Microsoft has updated the document on the KB5019980 update for Windows 11 22H2, released on November 8, 2022 (Build 22621.819). In it the company confirms that it is already aware of the problems that are occurring with some computers with Intel hardware and says that only those PCs that are using the Intel graphics drivers from version 26.20.100.7463 to version 30.0.101.1190 suffer from this bug.
Temporary workaround
According to Microsoft, it is possible to mitigate the issue by installing an Intel graphics driver newer than version 30.0.101.1190. To do this, simply access Windows Update or manually download and install the latest version using the “Troubleshooting” feature in the Windows Settings application.
According to the document published by Microsoft, computers with Intel hardware that have the following versions of Windows are being affected:
- Windows 11 version 22H2
- Windows 10 version 22H2
- Windows 11 version 21H2
- Windows 10 version 21H2
- Windows 10 version 20H2
- Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019
- Windows Server 2022
