The director of the Kandilli Observatory and Institute for Earthquake Research in Turkey, Haluk Ozner, said that the 7.4-magnitude earthquake, which occurred in Kahramanmaraş, might cause A tsunami occurs in the Mediterranean.

In an interview with the American network “CNN” CNN, Onz said: “We are facing the largest damage caused by an earthquake in this region since 1999.” He added that it is estimated that the earthquake occurred in the eastern Anatolia region, which led to a rift of 180 kilometers.

He said: “We are facing the most damaging earthquake that occurred in this region following the August 17, 1999 earthquake.”

Ozner continued: “The followingshocks are expected to continue for months, and may reach a year, and we may face the risk that the earthquake will cause tsunamis in the Mediterranean region, and we have informed 14 countries of that.”
