Twitter Blue starts allowing posts of up to 4,000 characters in the US

Twitter Blue is already available to Brazilian users for BRL 42 per month, but the social network’s differentiated subscription is already offering a very different feature to users in the United States —which, dare I say, might change the appearance of the platform for some profiles. That’s because, with this bonus, posts on the network will have a limit of 4,000 characters, and no longer 280, as for ordinary users.

With that, the famous “textão” will be released for some, reducing the need for threads from several tweets to tell a bigger story. The change is much more radical than the double from 140 to 280 characters in consolidated posts in 2017. Still limited to the US, the function has some limitations, such as the impossibility of scheduling texts or saving drafts.

To avoid endless timelines, larger tweets will have a “read more” button following 280 touches —a resource also used by other networks, such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, to hide the text from those who don’t want to read it until the end .

The news was announced by Twitter Blue’s own profile, which brought a “big text” regarding the news. “Starting today, if you are a Twitter Blue subscriber in the US, you will be able to create longer Tweets.” “Most of the standard tweet functions still apply in this case, whether you want to post a photo, use a hashtag or create a poll.”

With that, Elon Musk’s promise of being able to write longer tweets was — or rather is being — fulfilled. There is still no information on when the novelty should arrive in more countries.
