The five “Intermarché by Mestdagh” stores in Brussels have been on strike since Wednesday morning, the CNE union announced in a press release. These are the stores in Uccle, Forest, Schaerbeek, Molenbeek and Jette.
In addition to the discontent aroused by the takeover of the Mestdagh supermarket group by the French brand Intermarché, and which leads to the switch of integrated stores to a franchise model, the work stoppage is explained by a reality on the ground specific to Brussels stores. , according to the Christian union.
“Intermarché is a French company and does not want to automatically invest in bilingualism for only the Brussels stores and two Dutch-speaking stores. Consequences: workers are required to print and stick labels on each Intermarché brand product, individually, and in a chaotic work organization”, denounces the CNE.
Still according to the Christian union, the management also decided “without consultation” to use workers from an external firm, “without training and temporarily, while this work will remain recurrent as long as other solutions are not available. not found”.
A conciliation office is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. to address these various points, further indicates the CNE.
