According to Mark Gurman (from Bloomberg), a Apple is implementing a major overhaul in its people — name given by the company to the traditional human resources (HR) sector.
Now, the company has hired a new name especially to head the area, an announcement made by the Tim Cook in a memo to employees. Carol Surface was chosen for the post, and as of March the vice president of people from Apple.
She previously worked at Medtronic, a health technology company with regarding 100,000 employees. Cook said in the memo that Surface will report directly to him and that his new role within Apple will begin next month.
In a separate statement, Apple said Surface will come with “an incredible depth of experience” that will be important to help its teams around the world and build on “everything that makes Apple so special.”
Until now, the person holding the position was Deirdre O’Brien, which since 2017 accumulated it with that of vice president of retail. With the “separation”, the company is also expected to change the way it hires and supports employees. At Maçã, by the way, she will oversee a workforce that totaled 164,000 people at the end of the last fiscal year.
O’Brien, even “losing” the position of VP of people, will remain firm and strong in command of the retail sector – especially amid the constant expansion of Apple Stores year following year.
Deirdre O’Brien will continue to lead the business [de varejo] with the same excellence and care that has helped our teams do their best work and deliver unrivaled customer service.
Returning to Surface, as VP of People, she will handle all of the company’s HR functions, including talent development, recruiting, benefits, compensation and corporate support, as well as overseeing Apple University.
It was a lot to be accumulated with other functions, don’t you think?
