It’s the start of the 12th edition of the Fade to Black Festival | Black History Month 2023

The event, which continues until Sunday, will see nearly 50 guests, including former Liberal leader Dominique Anglade, who will participate in an intimate discussion at the Grande Bibliothèque on Friday.

During Black History Month, the Fade to Black Festival allows the public to meet well-known personalities from several fields and all disciplines. “They thus participate in the construction of our cultural heritage through knowledge, reflection and commitment!” “said the founding president of the festival Fabienne Colas in a press release.

Dominique Anglade, ILAM, Amina Gerba and Zab Maboungou are the guests of honor of this edition which takes place from February 8 to 12 in person and online, and which honors Afro-descendant women every day.

Film screenings, discussion panels, major interviews and music encompass the festivities that will welcome Déborah Cherenfant, Shérane Figaro, Sabine Daniel, Kerlande Mibel, Camille Esther Garon, Marina Mathieu, Marilyn Cooke, Émilie Mannering, Sara Nacer and many others .

The Cinémathèque québécoise is hosting the opening night, this Wednesday, February 8. The Women, Cinema & Inclusion evening brings together five short films made by women with the aim of promoting the African-Canadian and Quebec film industry.

A heart-to-heart discussion with Dominique Anglade will take place at the Grande Bibliothèque on Thursday. The former Deputy Premier of Quebec, former leader of the Liberal Party of Quebec, engineer, social entrepreneur and author will discuss with actress, director, producer, entrepreneur, and founder of the Fondu au Noir Festival Fabienne Nicolas.

The musical part of the evening will be dedicated to the ILAM show at Ausgang Plaza. Born in Dakar, Senegal, he draws on his Fulani roots and offers a style at the confluence of Afropop, reggae, jazz and soul.

The closing evening of the festival will take place online in the form of an interview with the Senator of Canada Amina Gerba, an entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience.

An English program, discussions, round tables and panels will complete the activities of Fondu au noir.
