Turkey, Syria earthquake death toll passes 8,700 The rescue workers have informed that the situation is that many families are lying under the ground and the death toll is likely to increase further. Heavy snow and rain continue to pose a challenge to rescue operations. Efforts are on to rescue those trapped between the buildings. Turkey has experienced the biggest earthquake the country has ever seen. Those trapped inside the buildings are sending voice messages for help. Requests for help are pouring in through social media as well. But the rescue workers are still unable to reach many places. Challenging weather is the main obstacle to the rescue operation due to broken roads and power lines. Turkey stated that more than 8000 people have been rescued so far. Rehabilitation of those who lost their homes and residences and treatment of the injured add to the crisis. Turkey announced that 50,000 tents and 100,000 beds have been prepared in the disaster area. The European Union has said it will share satellite monitoring reports with other countries to identify areas prone to further tremors.
At the same time, the countries of the world have come to help Turkey, which is facing a huge disaster. 45 countries, including India and the United States, offered help in the search and rescue operation. India has announced that it is ready to send two teams of National Disaster Response Force to Turkey. India has deployed two 50-member NDRF teams in Turkey. The group returned in an Air Force C-17 aircraft. The troops flew to Turkey with supplies including food and medicine for the affected people. The team was accompanied by a specially trained dog squad to locate those trapped underground.
As Turkey is a member of NATO, aid flows to that level as well. Hundreds of rescue workers, engineers and a specially trained dog squad have arrived in Turkey from California in the United States. The European Union also offered aid to Turkey. Russia and the Netherlands have made it clear that they will provide aid to Syria along with Turkey.
