The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) has announced Togo’s temporary suspension. The Initiative’s Board of Directors criticizes the country for failing to publish the report on its extractive activities in 2020.
Kazakhstan and Mexico, which have not produced or made available to the EITI the 2020 report following the deadline of December 31, 2022, are also concerned.
“Togo cannot claim an extension of the reporting deadline for the fiscal year from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020. The outstanding report publication deadline remains December 31, 2022,” the Council said. EITI Board in its decision made public on 1 February 2023.
This suspension will be “automatically lifted if the report is published within 6 months of the reporting deadline”, specifies the CA.
EITI had already suspended Togo in 2019 for late publication of the 2017 activity report. (Togo First)
