MEXICO CITY, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) — Mexico’s automotive industry has positive growth prospects thanks to the recovery of global supply chains, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) said on Tuesday.
January’s positive figures for the production and exports of light vehicles, with increases of 2.4% and 9.9% year-on-year, are a good sign for the sector, said Odracir Barquera, director general of the AMIA.
“The figures show that the recovery of supply chains is being felt, especially in the area of semiconductors,” he told a virtual press conference.
Mexico exported 238,135 light vehicles in January, 77.7 percent to the United States, its main market, according to AMIA data.
According to AMIA estimates, vehicle production will increase by 6.6% in 2023, while exports will increase by 7.2%. END
