Trained at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art, Anne Loiret made her stage debut in Harold and Maude alongside Madeleine Renaud. She received three Molières from the actress in a supporting role, the last in 2017 for Before flying away by Florian Zeller directed by Ladislas Chollat at the Théâtre de l’Œuvre. This week, she will be on the stage of the National Theater of Nice at the Franciscans for the creation of The law of the black body by Felicien Juttner.
Do you have stage fright on premiere nights?
I don’t really like the 1st ones. Besides, I don’t go there as a spectator. I don’t like the audience, which is generally there more for the others in the room than for the show itself. And that’s never the best representation of a show. I live it as a compulsory passage where I have the feeling to pass the examination of each scene (it’s done… it’s done…) and I start to be free at the 2nd. Contrary to a legend that says that the 2nd are rarely good performances, I love them!
How do you spend your day before a premiere night?
In general, I make my “first year words” which will accompany “first year gifts” for each of my show mates. And nothing else !
I keep telling myself what Denise Gray told me during my first year! : “ Don’t worry: If you worked well during rehearsals, you have no reason to be nervous, if you’re not there, your work will be there! We are not robots! “Not a first since without this thought that has become a mantra…
Do you have any habits before going on stage? Superstitions?
Not really. I arrive at the theater as late as possible. I like to tell myself that going on stage is an act like any other in my day. It is my job. I love it and I have the chance to do it. Nothing sacred there, but I wouldn’t stand for a performance to be tarnished either.
The joy of reuniting with my partners, the drama, the ritual and the bullshit is my best focus.
First time I said to myself “I want to do this job? »

First tears as a spectator, spectator?
At this representation ofHarold et Maude with Madeleine Renaud whom I have already mentioned. I found myself being dragged backstage by a friend. I had already cried a lot at the end of the show, when I found myself in front of Madeleine Renaud coming out of her dressing room, I once more broke down in tears to the point that she sat me down and asked a gentleman to bring a glass of water for this little… The gentleman who handed me the glass was… Jean-Louis Barrault…! I was 15, I didn’t know who it was…

An idol no, but partners for whom I had immense admiration yes. I will quote Michel Aumont who was my first “father” of theater and who was twice (on “The proof” and on “Puzzle”) I really care regarding it!
First interview?
I don’t know if it was the first one, but I remember this one: I wanted to quote Jean-Pierre Cassel who had just died, with whom I had played in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and with whom I had to play once more in Puzzle but he died just before we started rehearsals. I talked regarding him for a long time, and… the cases of champagne that I remembered seeing him bring to the theater for the whole troupe… The journalist never quoted Jean-Pierre in the article, but it was called : “ Anne Loiret, a glass of champagne before each performance » ????♀️ !!!
