According to online media The Athletic, the Nets would get guard Spencer Dinwiddie, wing Dorian Finney-Smith and several draft picks in this trade. While no more trades will be allowed following Thursday, numerous rumors had linked Irving to several NBA franchises, including the Phoenix Suns and the two Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers.

The 30-year-old, media report, requested his transfer following talks over a contract extension with the New York franchise broke down. The Nets did not want to offer him a fully guaranteed maximum contract before the season but, according to The Athletic, a contract with “guarantee clauses” which was not “to the taste” of the person concerned.

The negotiations between the Nets and the Mavericks accelerated during the day on Sunday, specifies for its part the television channel ESPN.

Crowned NBA champion in 2016 alongside LeBron James, Irving, a talented but reputedly unmanageable player, is averaging more than 27 points, five rebounds and seven assists per game this season, taking on Brooklyn’s offensive load since an injury to a knee sidelined the franchise’s other star, Kevin Durant.

His four seasons in Brooklyn were marred by controversy. He missed dozens of matches last season due to his refusal to be vaccinated once morest Covid-19. This season, he was suspended for eight games following posting a reference to an anti-Semitic film on his Instagram and Twitter accounts and then refusing to apologize. What he finally did coerced and forced.

In Dallas, he will join Slovenian star Luka Doncic, who is averaging 33.4 points per game but playing big minutes as he alone bears the team’s offensive weight.
