According to the bandleader and mastermind Andy Tillison heard a packed live album by The Tangent on his to-do list.

This point can now be removed from the bucket list, because Pyramids, Stars & Other Stories – The Tangent Live Recordings 2004 – 2017 comes on no fewer than three vinyls or two CDs and covers the entire body of work from the early days to the recent past.

As the name of the live compilation suggests, most of the recordings come from German Pyramid And Stars Concert from 2004, in which in the line-up with Roine Stolt the debut album The Music That Died Alone as well as the new songs of the upcoming sequel The World We Drive Though were presented. These are supplemented by recordings from 2012 and 2017, with the line ups valid at that time and currently.

Former bootleg recordings in official garb

The recordings presented here are not new for the fan, as they have been circulating as bootlegs in the relevant circles for a long time. So now they get an official stamp and have to measure themselves qualitatively at higher levels. Musically they can of course do that.

The tracks from the first two albums are part of the standard equipment of a prog rock record collection for a reason. Live, the songs are even more powerful and the joy of playing the then new project can be felt in every note.

This collection is of course for fans who already know every song inside and out. As a tip is at this point A Crisis In Midlife put it to your heart HERE can hear. The song is from Not As Good As The Book Album, here is a version from the 2012 COMM tour and perfectly reflects the variety that characterizes the band.

An overview especially of the early phase of the band

The sound quality of the former bootlegs is not optimal. However, it was refined a bit for this compilation. It’s also a shame that newer albums haven’t come into their own yet. Finally, since the most recent song Two Rope Swings three more albums have already been released. Maybe one day there will be the final live album with a real complete overview. Until then offers Pyramids, Stars & Other Stories – The Tangent Live Recordings 2004 – 2017 an excellent general overview of an exceptional band in the Prog Rock circus.

Conclusion
Das Livealbum Pyramids, Stars & Other Stories – The Tangent Live Recordings 2004 – 2017 offers no new fan fodder. Rather, it transports former bootleg recordings from The Tangent into an official live document, especially from the early phase of the band and is therefore highly recommended to every fan of progressive rock music with a retro and Canterbury touch.
