Will this new product find its audience? Hard to say. Bouygues Telecom launched its new 5G box this week. This allows, in clear, to access the Internet at very high speed through the mobile network of the operator. The latter claims that she was “designed to limit environmental impact”.
“Composed of 95% recycled plastic, it does not contain any halogenated substances in order to improve its recyclingspecifies Bouygues Telecom. Its outer casing is designed to extend its life. »
This box also has “passive ventilation promoting energy saving”.
In the countryside, few inhabitants have 5G
It benefits from WiFi 6. The vertical design of the box would guarantee, according to Bouygues Telecom, “optimal distribution”. It has five Ethernet ports for connecting different equipment. The box is available without obligation from 40.99 euros per month.
This box is, in particular, an alternative to fiber when it is not available. But it is still necessary, of course, to have 5G coverage. Which is far from obvious. Today, rural dwellers, who have the least fiber in the country, often do not yet benefit from 5G. Today, Bouygues Telecom like its rivals focus on large cities. Firstly because there are more customers there. Then because 4G networks are gradually reaching saturation point. In the latter case, 5G is used in particular to relieve network congestion.
