The ship carrying more than 4,500 cars caught fire while passing Vung Tau waters

A freight train carrying more than 4,500 cars on the way from South Korea to Singapore suddenly caught fire. The owner of the ship drove the vehicle into the waters of Vung Tau for help.

On the evening of February 5, the Vung Tau Maritime Administration said that the fire on the Ah Shin ship in the waters of Vung Tau was basically controlled. The ship was tilted 5 degrees to the starboard side. All crew members are safe and remain on board.

Previously, around 19:25 on February 4, Vung Tau Maritime Administration received information from the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Area III regarding the incident of the Ah Shin ship on its way from Korea to Singapore when it caught fire.

After receiving the news, around 3:00 on February 5, Vung Tau Port Authority contacted the captain of the ship Ah Shin (Panama nationality). The ship is floating in the sea, regarding 25 nautical miles southeast of Vung Tau cape.

The ship has 21 crew members with Russian nationality, carrying 4,530 cars. The amount of fuel on board includes 1,356 tons of FO oil and 82 tons of DO oil.

The ship was burning on the 8th, 9th and 10th floors. There was a lot of smoke on the 11th and 12th floors. The ship has used up the CO2 fire suppression system, but the fire has not been controlled.

The ship owner asked Vietnamese authorities to support and find an additional source of CO2 for the Ah Shin train to put out the fire.

The functional forces of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province had a meeting and planned to coordinate with the ship owner to control the fire.

Ah Shin train is 199 m long, 32 m wide, 23.5 m high (12 floors), is a car transport train.
