“Trusted by the Party and National Assembly to hold the role of Acting President until the National Assembly elects a new President, I am deeply aware that the greater the honor, the greater the responsibility,” said Ms. Xuan.

Speaking at the ceremony, former State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his emotion when organizing this very respectful, thoughtful, warm and affectionate meeting. He also congratulated Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan on being assigned the role of acting President, and hoped that she would continue to carry out her assigned noble duties.
With nearly 21 months in the position of State President, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that he always upholds the sense of responsibility before the Party, the people and the country, strictly abides by the leadership of the Party, inherits and promotes important achievements of previous Presidents.
“However, as Prime Minister for the 2016-2021 term, I take the political responsibility of the head when there are some cadres who violate their shortcomings, causing serious consequences. Fully aware of my responsibility to the Party and People, I have applied for resignation from positions, resignation, and retirement.
During the Politburo meetings, the Extraordinary Conference of the Central Committee and the Extraordinary Meeting of the National Assembly, I raised this issue unequivocally and clearly,” said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
Pursuant to regulations of the Party and State, considering individual aspirations, the Party and State have agreed to let Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc stop holding his position and stop serving as a member of the 15th National Assembly.
