According to the authorities, this shipment was imported by HMD Technology Joint Stock Company (in Hanoi). The goods included a shipping container on board XinWenZhou 147E, which entered Lach Huyen port on January 22.

However, through professional measures, the customs force suspected that this container contained ivory, which is banned from import.

On February 2, at Lach Huyen port, the Customs Enforcement Team and Dinh Vu Port Customs Branch (Hai Phong Customs Department) chaired and coordinated with the Command of the Coast Guard Region 1, the Border Guard Hai Phong Department, Hai Phong Police check the above suspicious container.

At the inspection, the functional force discovered 117 pieces of ivory with a total weight of 490kg mixed with imported farmed cow horn.
