MAD Solutions will release the Lebanese film Youssef, directed by Kazem Fayyad, at the Rainbow Theater in Jordan, on Saturday and Tuesday, February 4 and 7, to be the second Arab station for the film following its homeland, Lebanon. It will also be broadcast on ART Movies 1 on Sunday, February 19, at 8 pm Egypt time.
The film ran for 6 weeks in Lebanese theaters, during which it received critical praise through websites and communication sites. The Lebanese art website wrote, “The story alone was enough to make the entire audience ask deep questions regarding the meaning of his life.” Critic Khalil Hanoun praised the film and its director on his Facebook page. The critic Malik Halawi also wrote, “The film was able to successfully play on the pace of the Lebanese identity,” and the critic Jihad Ayoub shared his opinion, writing, “The film dives into its Lebaneseness outside our previous films that are Lebanese hybrids.”
Youssef’s film was selected among the ten best films nominated for the Geneva Oriental Film Festival Award in Switzerland out of 500 films submitted for competition, and it won the Jury Prize from the Los Angeles Asian Film Festival, and the Best First Film Award from the Alexandria Festival for Mediterranean Countries. The events revolve around Youssef, who aims to challenge death itself, and while he is stuck between two realities, he tries to save the life of his little brother, but his saving his brother is associated with the occurrence of another crime, as death always resolves death. The psychological thriller delves into the dark underworld of the arms trade in Lebanon.
The film Youssef is directed by Kazem Fayyad, and Hussein Haidar co-authored the story. As for the script, it was written by them alongside Ali Mansour. It is produced by Blue House Films for its owner, journalist Radwan Mortada, and MAD Solutions is responsible for distributing the film in the Arab world.
