Cremonese, bottom of the standings in the Italian Football League, without achieving a victory in the last 20 stages, continued its surprises in the cup competition, eliminating Rome in the quarter-finals, by defeating it 2-1, following eliminating Napoli in the previous round.
The Lombard club, which eliminated Napoli by penalty kicks in the round of 16, will meet in the first semi-final next April with Fiorentina, who qualified earlier at Turin’s expense 2-1.
Cremonese opened the scoring in the 28th minute through Nigerian Cyril Desires from a penalty kick, before the capital club complicated its ordeal with a reverse goal from Turkish Zaki Celik (49).
Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho’s men tried to come back in the second half, but Andrea Belotti’s goal “94” was not enough to avoid exclusion.
