Battle tanks for Ukraine: was Olaf Scholz caught off guard?

Advice from German foreign politicians shakes the image of the far-sighted strategist in the Chancellery. The head of government’s decision to send Leopard 2 to Ukraine appears to have been made hectically and without consultation with the coalition partners.

The day following his decision to send main battle tanks to Ukraine, Olaf Scholz presented himself as a shrewd strategist. He explained that he did not hesitate and hesitate, as the short-sighted and ignorant opponents of his course repeatedly accused him of. Rather, everything followed a long-term plan that he had agreed with Washington and Paris and the partners in the Berlin coalition in a spirit of trust.
