ESPN journalist exploded for ‘regionalism’ in change of headquarters of the Colombian National Team | soccer trivia

The thorny debate on which should be the headquarters of the Colombian National Team seems to be a never-ending topic. The reception of the tricolor in Bogotá, where the final phase of the South American U-20 tournament began with a full stadium, put the discussion back on the table.

It has become, once once more, a topic that generates discomfort and in which all kinds of criticism appear. There are those who take advantage of the moment to “add fuel to the fire” asking if Barranquilla deserves to continue being the ‘House of the National Team’.

Regarding the endless ‘push and pull’ between those who defend one venue or another, the one who stepped forward was Víctor Romero, a Colombian journalist who hosts the ESPN program Balón Dividido from Argentina. The request of the sincelejano is to leave the “silly regionalism” and think regarding the best for the national team.

“The Colombian National Team is the Colombian National Team, not Atlántico, nor Cundinamarca, nor Valle. From time to time the debate appears, sometimes intentionally, to debate which should be the headquarters, it is always valid and it seems positive to me. In the end, it is they must observe the best conditions, if it is Barranquilla, Bogotá, Cali, Medellín,” he said.

Romero appeared very upset and pointed to journalists without mentioning anyone. “Disrespect which takes it to another level, to another area (…) When it is installed from the usual places, those of privilege and when you have the irresponsibility from the microphone to generate that silly, stupid and stupid regionalism. From Here we don’t lend ourselves to such nonsense, we have a neutral tone”.

In the end, the journalist concluded by saying that whatever the venue, “the Colombian National Team is respected and supported. A little more respect for the profession and for the people who are on the other side.”
