Earlier this week, we learned that the average rent for a two-bedroom apartment rose by $90 in Greater Montreal. This price now stands at $1022.
It is therefore becoming more and more difficult to find accommodation without emptying your wallet.
It is now possible for tenants eligible for the Canada Housing Benefit to claim one-time assistance of $500 provided by the federal government, but not everyone can access it.
“It’s people with a very low income who can have access to it,” explains Jean-Sébastien Jutras, financial planner at Jutras Gestion de Patrimoine. “We are talking here regarding families with a household income of less than $35,000 or individuals with an income of less than $20,000.”
The request is made directly on the ARC “My file” site.
According to Mr. Jutras, a family should not spend more than 35% of its family budget on rent.
“What we advise people is to create a budget, because at the moment there is an imbalance in budgets due to the rising cost of living and wages that are not increasing. .”
Government money from the CRA helps those on low incomes. Those who also undergo hefty increases and who make more than 20,000 dollars, they have to get by on their own.
