Stephen Curry beat a record de Wilt Chamberlain

Franchise records, Stephen Curry already has plenty with the Warriors. But tonight, the best all-time shooter entered Golden State history even further by overtaking the legendary Wilt Chamberlain for the most baskets scored with the Dubs.

7 222.

Since arriving in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2009, Stephen Curry has scored a total of 7,222 baskets (3,290 from 3-pointers), that is to say six more than the great Wilt (7,216).

It was on a penetration lay-up at the start of the third quarter, last night in Oklahoma City, that Curry overtook Chamberlain. A little history lesson, Wilt had set his record in just six years (1959 to 1965), first playing in Philadelphia and then in San Francisco following the franchise moved in the early 1960s.

“What does it mean to break Wilt’s record? It means that I am getting old (laughs).

It is special. Anyone who has broken a Wilt record feels special because some of his records are unbreakable. But I’m grateful to have been able to play 14 years with Dub Nation. I tried a lot of shots, fortunately many came in. It’s really cool. So I’m going to celebrate that.”

Passing Wilt Chamberlain in a statistical category is always a huge accomplishment when you know that the legendary pivot deserves to be on the cover of the NBA record books. But for Curry, it’s obviously far from the first franchise record he’s set with the Warriors.
