Western Digital, whose marketing focus is on flash memory storage applications, has not stopped the development of hard disk technology in its old industry. They have newly launched the Ultrastar DC HS760 20TB enterprise-level hard disk. In addition to being equipped with OptiNAND technology, it also uses dual drive arms. Designed to nearly double the data throughput.

Ultrastar DC HS760 20TB has been quietly launched on Western Digital’s official website, but the recommended price has not yet been announced, nor has it provided more performance and specification information. Ultrastar DC HS760 20TB is a helium-encapsulated, 7,200RPM model as usual, but it adopts a dual-drive arm design like Seagate MACH.2. The actual structure is to form two logical units (LUN 0 / 1), parallel operation can thus improve data throughput.

Western Digital uses its own Ultrastar DC HC560 20TB as a reference comparison group, pointing out that the sequential access speed of Ultrastar DC HS760 20TB can be increased by 2 times, which means that it can reach a spectrum of nearly 582MB/s (Ultrastar DC HC560 is 291MB/s), as for random throughput It can also be improved by 1.7 times. It naturally also includes OptiNAND technology, and one of the functions, ArmorCache, is enabled by default to provide write acceleration and data security write protection.

Ultrastar DC HS760 20TB maintains consistent reliability requirements design, like 2.5 million hours MTBF, 24 x 7 year-round operation, 5-year limited warranty, but the workload 500TB / year (per LUN) is slightly lower. It’s just that currently only SAS is available as a single interface option, unlike Seagate Exos 2X18 which also has SATA options, which can be compatible with more systems and storage devices.
