According to an INSEE study published last week, the median gross wealth in France is €177,500 per household (there are as many who own more than households who own less). The richest 10% own at least €716,300, which is 163 times more than the poorest 10% who own less than €4,400. As for the richest 1%, their wealth is at least €2,239,200.
Another way of illustrating these inequalities: 50% of French households share 92% of the heritage. Another half therefore owns only 8% of the assets.
Real estate assets are the most widespread in the population: 62% of the gross assets of the whole. Nearly six out of ten French households are owners, their average gross wealth is 8.6 times higher than that of tenants.
Business assets (land, machinery, buildings, livestock, inventory, etc.) are concentrated in the hands of the richest 5% of households who own 95% of them. Quite logically, wealth increases with age, reaching a peak at age 60. Beyond that it decreases slightly.
