Houses destroyed by a gas explosion in Blegny: voluntary act or technical problem? The seriously injured is a miracle

This Monday, we returned to Blegny, in the province of Liège, where two houses were blown up by gas. A resident was injured and this morning, the experts arrived on the scene. In total, the damage noted in the street is estimated at 1 million euros.

They haven’t slept all night. 24 hours following the tragedy, the explosion still resounds in the heads of the neighbors. Hubert lives right in front of a pile of rubble.
“I didn’t know how to sleep. I was too worried. I was excited, nervous. I was starting to have a sore throat, I took pills, aspirins”, he confides.

In the street, roofers and electricians were at work. With two mailboxes less, Edouard sees his tour lightened. “We have to deal with it. There are specific regulations that tell us to put the mail elsewhere”, he said.

Priority: ensure the rehousing of two affected residents. Make way for insurers’ expertise before clearing the rubble. The estimate of the damage should approach one million euros.

“There will be a complete reconstruction to be expected. In this context and taking into account the prices of real estate, there are several hundred thousand euros that will have to be committed to rebuild a property. Afterwards, the whole sanitation component of the site must be provided in a context like this”, says Sebastien Vanlaer, an expert-insurer specializing in claims.

Found lying on the roof of his van, Cedric, the tenant is still hospitalized in critical condition, but his life is no longer in danger. Absent from the scene, his companion and his daughter were saved.

“Even if he was my tenant, we had no problem with it. He has an injury but nothing too serious”, specifies the owner of a housing blown by gas.

Voluntary act or technical problem, the resident has not yet been heard by the authorities. But given the extent of the damage, it is a real miracle.
