CFR SA has announced that it has launched the tender for the first stage of modernization of the North Railway Station, a project included in the PNRR, with a total value of 471 million lei (without VAT). The North Station is in great need of modernization, the subject has been talked regarding for 15 years. Projects of one billion euros and the complete relocation of the station had also been proposed.

The project also involves the modernization of the lighting fixtures, which is extremely necessary, because there is very little light on the platform following dark.
The deadline for submitting bids at the public auction (SEAP) is March 6, 2023.
What CFR SA says
Stage 1 – design and execution of works to modernize the largest train station in Romania – Bucharest North Station – by consolidating facades, roofs, installations and arranging public spaces in the 3 bodies of the building:
Building A (buildings Dinicu Golescu Blvd.)
Body B (central, columns, first class ticket offices)
Building C (2nd class ticket offices, Calea Griviței)
Objectives:
- modernization/consolidation/rehabilitation of the buildings in the Bucharest North passenger station;
- modernization of spaces intended for the traveling public, including facilities for disabled people;
- ensuring safety and comfort elements for travelers – railings, ramps for disabled people, elevators, access control systems;
- the creation of central green spaces, with a waiting area for the public in transit;
- the regeneration of the area related to the Gara de Nord passenger station on the principles of smart city/creative city/green city;
- new ventilation/heating systems;
- modernization of the lighting system and electrical, sanitary, thermal etc. installations;
- modernizing the information system for the traveling public and the telecommunications equipment.
Estimated value: 471 million lei (without VAT)
Funding source: PNRR
Design and execution of works: 55 months (9 months design and 46 months execution).
