the “beatsteaks” finally graced the open air area of the vienna arena once more and did what they do best: make their fans happy with their music!
i wasn’t really in the concert mood that thursday (understandable following two weeks at the primavera sound festival), but i knew that the “beatsteaks” would catapult me into the right mood in no time at all. so i packed my favorite beatsteaks friend and scurried with her to the open air area of the arena. we looked for a good place and the fun might start!
there was no opening act, the performance of the “beatsteaks” started straight away with two rock bangers: “hello joe” and “frieda and the bombs” woke up the tired viennese. and shortly followingwards a hit trio followed, just to my liking: “hand in hand”, “gentleman of the year” and “atomic love”. I really love each of these three songs to death! together with my concert accompanist it was even more fun, because no one else dances like her and that was really good for my mood. i had the feeling that everything was in flux – and maybe everything was even a bit magical.
frontman arnim took every opportunity to climb up somewhere, present his guitar or get very close to the audience and almost perform in the middle of the crowd. this closeness makes “beatsteaks” concerts so wonderful in general – a very special dynamic is created every time. my only point of criticism: the singer always hid under a fisherman’s hat/bucket and sometimes even behind sunglasses and i almost felt a bit sorry for that. arnim is probably the prettiest singer in germany and that’s why i was a bit sad. but actually only until my next favorite song “milk & honey” came out – i can’t even put it into words what this song triggers in me, i burst inside with love for these milk & honey tones.
it went on with a few lesser known songs and then once more with even more hits – “hail to the freaks”, “monster”, “to be strong”, “summer”, “cut off the top”, “let me in” – and I kept asking myself how great the beatsteaks actually are? this band has their audience under control, always creates the best atmosphere, is difficult to classify into a genre and even less comparable to another band – for me the beatsteaks are and will remain something very unique. and maybe that’s why their concerts are always a must for me.
two blocks of encores followed, many bows and an overjoyed audience, which was immersed in a sea of soap bubbles at the end. the outdoor bar right next to the stage had turned on a bubble machine and i thought that was a very good ending. beatsteaks concerts are always good – and i’m already looking forward to the next one!
