All increases in energy bills from February 1
From February 1, 2023, the regulated tariff of electricity will increase further by 15%. As a reminder, the gas was increased on January 1. here are the consequences on your bills !
Electricity: your bills increased by 15% from the 1is february
The regulated electricity sales tariff (TRV) is reassessed every year in February. The CRE (Energy Regulation Commission) proposes and the government validates. To do the calculation, CRE analyzes wholesale electricity prices. In 2022, because of the conflict in Ukraine, they had skyrocketed and they are still very high.
So, to prevent French bills from exploding, the government has put in place a tariff shield » Last year. Thus, on February 1, 2023, the increase will be “only” 15% and not 99 %
, according to the CRE. Thus, a customer who uses 8,500 kWh might have an increase of around 200 euros per year. The latter might pay 1,845 euros instead of 1,604 euros.
Gas: 15% increase
The TRV gas is analyzed every month by CRE. The State revised its tariff shield at the start of the year. At 1is January, it blocked the increase at 15%, instead of 56%. For a consumption of 13,690 kWh per year, a consumer might pay bills of 1,675 euros instead of 1,453 euros.
Do TRVs protect the invoices of all customers?
We will extend the tariff shield for all households in 2023”, affirmed
Elisabeth Borne a few weeks ago.
In reality, it is more complex. For gas, the tariff shield helps 2.6 million TRV customers at Engie. This is also the case for 2.4 million customers who have signed a ” market offer » indexed to the TRV.
Then there are another six million gas subscribers. In the lot, 1.6 million people benefit from the price shield, but it is still limited. Indeed, the government gives financial assistance to energy suppliers. They buy the gas at a high price and resell it cheaper to consumers.
Before, only suppliers who had contracts indexed to the TRV received this state aid. Now this compensation is given to all contractsand this, since the 1is September 2022, regardless of provider. Then, it is up to the company to pass on this compensation to its subscribers on their bills.
But, who says boost does not necessarily mean low price. On the site energie-info.fr, we note amounts which amount to 4,700 euros per year for an annual consumption of 13,690 kWh. That’s three times the TRV…
For other contracts signed before September 2022, the price shield does not protect their invoices. The users most in difficulty are those who have a contract indexed to wholesale prices,
can be read on the website. Some are experiencing astronomical increases. 5,000 of them seized us last year, twice as many as in 2021.
Gas TRV will disappear
Indeed, June 30, 2023 is the end clap. Is this also the end tariff shield? How will it apply to our invoices? Thanks to a price benchmark, drawn up by the CRE »,
informs the Ministry of Energy Transition.
So from 1is next July, Engie customers at the TRV will be redirected to a offer indexed to the CRE benchmark, guaranteeing price maintenance ».
But, there are skeptics. The state will subsidize suppliers (10 billion for electricity and gas, according to an estimate by Bercy of 2022, Ed)
, by asking them to apply the tariff,
explains François Carlier, the general delegate of the consumer association. But what guarantees that they will?
Namely, the TRV of electricity which concerns 21 million subscribers at EDF, will remain in place.
Emmanuelle Wargon gives three important information
The CLCV association fears price increases following the disappearance of the gas TRV. ” Il do not confuse regulated tariff and tariff shield. The end of the regulated tariff does not want say that the French will not be more protected. What protects them is the tariff shield, put in place by the government. And this shield may continue to apply, even without a regulated tariff. », explains Emmanuelle Wargon, President of the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE)
How will it continue to apply? ” The Energy Regulation Commission has undertaken to produce a price reference system, which will replace the gas TRV. This will make it possible to calculate the state compensation for energy suppliers, which pass on lower prices to users. This price benchmark will be very close to the TRV. »
She also adds: « The tariff shield remains protective. It limited the increase to 15% in January 2023. Without this shield, real progress of the regulated tariff would be 56.7%. Last year, the difference was even more marked: around 100%. »
