Shutterstock describes the new generative AI tool powered by OpenAI as easy to use and accessible to everyone.
Users can create unique images from a single word or longer phrases, although when we tested the tool we found it best not to be too complex in its queries. After all, it’s technically a beta, and the company confirmed its belief that users shouldn’t need to “learn how to write long, complex messages to benefit from this technology.”
Once images are created, users are free to refine them using a photo editor or through the site’s Create tool, an image editor designed for those with no experience with design software. chart.
The intended audience is businesses and organizations, with Shutterstock highlighting the tool’s potential use in content marketing campaigns. However, well aware of the controversies surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in art – and, presumably, in an effort to avoid accusations of copyright theft – the company promises to take an ethical approach.
Noting that it is the first to support a “responsible AI generation model”, the Adobe Stock alternative will pay artists for any input used to generate the images.
This commitment follows comments made during the initiative’s presentation in October 2022, when Shutterstock made clear its intention to protect the intellectual property rights of artists, photographers and creators on the platform.
“Our easy-to-use generative platform will transform the way people tell their stories. You no longer need to be a design expert or have access to a creative team to design exceptional work. Our tools are built on an ethical approach and on a library of assets that represents the diverse world we live in, and we ensure that the artists whose works have contributed to the development of these models are recognized and rewarded,” said Paul Hennessy, CEO of Shutterstock.
