Eva Pinkelnig’s podium series in the Women’s Ski Jumping World Cup ended in Hinterzarten on Saturday. The woman from Vorarlberg ended up in 13th place in the sovereign success of the German Katharina Althaus and thus did not reach the top three for the first time following eight podium finishes in a row.

In the 14th competition this winter, the five-time winner of the season, Pinkelnig, did not make it onto the podium for the second time. Best Austrian was Chiara Kreuzer in sixth place. Things didn’t go according to plan for the other two ÖSV jumpers – Jacqueline Seifriedsberger came in 18th, Hannah Wiegele had to settle for 27th place. Defending World Cup champion Sara Marita Kramer from Salzburg did not travel to Hinterzarten to work on her form.

Continued lead in the overall World Cup

Althaus, on the other hand, is in great shape. She was in a class of her own in her home competition and celebrated her twelfth World Cup victory. The lead of the 26-year-old local hero over the second-placed Slovenian Ema Klinec was 21.2 points. Third place went to Abigail Strate, the Canadian jumped to her first podium. In the overall World Cup, leader Pinkelnig still has a comfortable lead over Althaus (853) with 1,036 points.

Technical problems at the FIS

Another competition is scheduled for Sunday (3:15 p.m.) in Hinterzarten. The qualification for the first event of the weekend had to be canceled on Friday due to technical problems with the data service provider and made up for on Saturday. The data ticker of the world association FIS did not work properly on Saturday either.
